Tennessee leads the nation in students applying for federal financial aid.
Officials use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA as an indicator of the number of high school seniors intending to go to postsecondary education.
More than 73 percent of all Tennessee high school seniors applied for the FAFSA this spring.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission said the Volunteer State leads the nation by a large margin. The District of Columbia ranks second with nearly 65 percent.
