Fentress County will remove Old Pile Road, on the outskirts of Jamestown, from the county road list.
Fentress County Road Superintendent Rayn Reed requested to remove the road from the county road list.
“This hasn’t been maintained since I’ve been in office,” Reed said. “Going back to at least 20 years ago, that’s the oldest guy I’ve got that’s worked in there at the department has been there 20 years, and they never worked on it there, so we are really not doing anything except just getting it off the maintenance list
The commission asked if property owners would still have access to the road once it is removed from the county road list. County Attorney Leslie Ledbetter said the road would be classified as a public road instead of a county road.
“If we have not been putting money and funds into it, and no one is opposed to that, then we don’t operate our equipment on it any longer,” Ledbetter said. “But it’s what people use it for to come and go on. It’s not been closed as a public road, it’s been closed to our maintenance.”
The request has already been approved by the county’s planning commission. Commissioner Larry Cooper said no one has opposed the request.
“Well, no one has opposed it right,” Cooper said. “I mean, they had the opportunity to come to the planning commission, and nobody opposed it.”
