Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton was re-elected Thursday in the City Council election. Shelton received roughly 20 percent of the votes, with Laurin Wheaton finishing second. Pickett County elected Jimmy Cope as Road Superintendent tonight. Cope received 1,373 votes in order to secure the position. Cope won against Jeff Neal with a 778 vote lead.
Bill Lee Wins Republican Primary for Governor
Self-proclaimed political outsider Bill Lee has won the Tennessee governor primary for the Republican primary. Lee received 37 percent of all votes cast during Thursday’s election, defeating businessman Randy Boyd and State Representative Diane Black. Lee, a cattle farmer, has never held public office in his career.
