McMinnville accepting a $148,000 grant to develop a river safety mapping and wayfinding network across 65 miles of three area rivers.
McMinnville Alderman Keri Morton said the Healthy Active Rural Tennessee Grant will require no local matching money. The funding will be spread across two fiscal years.
“It is exciting. It’s great. No money from us. It’s perfect,” Morton said.
Morton said the project will cover portions of the Collins, Barren Fork and Caney Fork Rivers. The grant calls for creating a river safety mapping and wayfinding network across a combined 65 miles.
The funding comes entirely through the HEART Grant, allowing McMinnville to move forward with the project without contributing local matching funds. The meeting discussion did not specify how the $148,000 will be divided between the two fiscal years.
Details about the individual components that will make up the mapping and wayfinding network or when the project will be completed will be announced at a later date.
The McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved acceptance of the grant.
