Jackson County EMA will let children explore more than forty vehicles and meet the people who operate them during Saturday’s Touch-A-Truck event.
The annual event will take place in the Jackson County High School parking lot.The lineup includes emergency vehicles, a Life Force helicopter, National Guard vehicles, and Jackson County native Jamie Dailey’s tour bus. Jackson County paramedic Jeff Conn is helping organize the event.
“I love seeing the joy it brings to the children,” Conn said. “It just reaffirms that I really enjoy what I do, getting to help people in any way whether it be an emergency or just bringing some joy to the kids of the community and giving them something to do.”
Conn said children enjoy climbing into the vehicles, getting behind the wheel, seeing the equipment up close, and sounding the horns. He said the event gives children a chance to interact with first responders in a fun environment rather than during an emergency.
The event also introduces children to the different jobs performed by emergency personnel, utility workers, and other community organizations. Conn said the adults who attend often enjoy exploring the vehicles as much as the children.
Touch-A-Truck brings local emergency agencies, businesses, and other organizations together to provide a free activity for Jackson County families.
The event is scheduled for Saturday from 11am-2pm at Jackson County High School. Visitors will only be able to view the outside of Dailey’s tour bus.
