McMinnville Theater Books Yonder Mountain String Band

McMinnville officials approved a proposal Tuesday to bring the Yonder Mountain String Band to the Park Theater as part of an upcoming bluegrass concert series.

Park Theater Manager Joe Harvey said the performance is scheduled for February 4 and represents a significant booking for the venue.

“This band is a mainstay in both the jam band and the Bluegrass, genre,” Harvey said, “They’ve been around since the, at least the 90s, but they’re a great band.  I think they’ll do a great job of bringing people to the Park Theater.”

Harvey said the band will likely be the second show in the theater’s bluegrass series. Harvey said the funding for the performance is already included in the current budget.

Harvey said the band’s technical requirements include an electric bass, which the theater will source through a local loan or a rental. Harvey said the group is a mainstay on the professional circuit.

“Like I said, they kind of just, they’re a mainstay in that Bluegrass and jam band circuit,” Harvey said. “Yeah, I think it’s going to be a really good show.”

Harvey said the theater has several other events scheduled, including a production of Matilda Jr. by Warren Arts at the end of the month. Harvey said a fundraiser for Caring Hearts United is scheduled for this weekend to support local hospice care.

“They’re a great group, very, you know, they help to fund local hospice,” Harvey said. “It’s a great cause, so if you’re around, come out and support that one.”

Harvey said the following weekend will feature a rock and roll tribute act called Shake Rattle & Roll on Friday and a bluegrass songwriters round on Saturday.
