Algood Voters Elect Tiffany Anton Mayor To Lead Change

Algood voters elected Tiffany Anton as the community’s new mayor, signaling a desire for a new direction for the municipality.

Anton said she is eager to begin her service to the community after receiving 43 percent of the vote.

“I was really concerned that Algood has stayed kind of what it’s stayed, status quo for so long,” Anton said. “And so to know that the people of Algood want to see some great changes, to see the park finished, to see some downtown, to see the historic house, they want to see the vision that I have for our little town.”

Anton said she has already begun communicating with Keith Morrison regarding the transition into her new role. Anton said she intends to leverage her existing professional relationship with Morrison to determine the next steps for the city.

“I actually already received a text message from Keith Morrison and so, I’ve already had an established relationship with him and so I’m already, I said, I’m really excited to work with you and see what we can get done,” Anton said.

Anton said her professional background in the nonprofit sector has provided her with several years of experience working alongside government entities. Anton said this experience gave her a foundational knowledge of economic development and the internal mechanics of how cities operate.

“I’ve been in, in government in the nonprofit that I work for for years now and so I have some, some knowledge of how cities work and economic development works and so there’s some things that I kind of know, but I think being the mayor of a, a small town, a small city, is definitely a different kind of thing and so there’s definitely a learning curve, but I’m very excited,” Anton said.

Anton said she spent election day with city council candidates Dan and Bryan. Anton said she looks forward to collaborating with the council members to move the city forward.

“I spent the day with our city council candidates as well and so I’m really excited to work with Dan and Bryan and I just, I’m really, I think there’s a bright future for Algood,” Anton said.
