New leadership the story of Election Day across the Upper Cumberland with most polls open 9am to 7pm.
Cookeville will elect a new mayor, the top vote getter of the five council members elected. A total of 11 candidates in the race, including three incumbents. Algood will also elect a new mayor.
Dekalb, Fentress, Overton, Van Buren and White Counties will all elect a new county executive by the end of Thursday night, with the incumbent not in the race. Election officials report significant interest in these races regionwide.
Crowded races also highlight the ballot in multiple counties include the Clay County Mayor race and county commission races in Overton County.
Upper Cumberland native John Rose will await the returns for governor in Cookeville, as he looks for the Republican nomination.
