Putnam County Fair Board announced it will name the fair office building in honor of long-time volunteer Pam Thomas to commemorate her 33 years of service.
Fair Board Member Bill Dyer said the board decided to recognize Thomas’s permanent impact on the organization as the 100th annual Putnam County Fair begins.
“Since Pam has been with us for over 30 years, she has been a fixture in our fair office all them years,” Dyer said. “And so, we thought it would be really appropriate to actually acknowledge that by putting her name on the building.”
Dyer said the building dedication serves as a tribute to Thomas’s family legacy that began with her parents, the Shanks family, and has continued through her own children and grandchildren. Thomas has performed various roles, including working in the fair office, assisting with livestock shows, and creating scrapbooks for the Tennessee Association of Fairs convention.
“No matter the task, she was always, she has always stepped up with a servant’s heart and a smile,” President Brenda Gentry said. “The Putnam County Fair has become a true family tradition because of her dedication.”
Dyer said Thomas’s presence in the office has provided essential stability for the staff and other volunteers during the busy fair season.
“Thank you, Pam, for all your dedication and work throughout the years for helping us keep our sanity during the fair,” Dyer said.
The 100th annual Putnam County Agricultural and Industrial Fair officially commenced following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Putnam County Convention Center.
