TCAT Upper Cumberland has become the first Tennessee facility to earn the VETS Bravo designation for its commitment to supporting military-connected students.
Schools must meet specific criteria to achieve the honor, such as using annual student veteran survey results to improve campus services. The college must identify a specific campus liaison and provide ongoing professional development to maintain the status. The institution also established a peer mentoring program for military-connected students that has operated for at least one academic year.
Tennessee Higher Education Commission Director of Veteran Initiatives Kathleen Staple said more than 6,700 undergraduate student veterans are enrolled statewide.
Staple said institutions with the designation must submit annual data to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission regarding enrollment counts and credentials attained by veteran students.
