DeKalb County will purchase a new ambulance thanks to a $305,461 state grant.
Mayor Matt Adcock said the funding comes from a bill passed by the state legislature that authorized 89 counties to receive new emergency vehicles. Adcock said the grant requires no local matching funds.
“It was a full, no match grant that we received, all new funds,” Adcock said. “So we’re just showing that we’re doing a budget amendment because originally we didn’t have this because it didn’t pass at the time.”
Adcock said the county has already completed the bidding process for the vehicle through its purchasing committee. Adcock said the budget amendment was the final step required to move the funds into place so the purchase could be finalized.
“We’ve already accepted a bid in the purchasing committee,” Adcock said. “We haven’t purchased it obviously because we have to this budget amendment’s the only thing.”
Commissioner Mathias Anderson asked for clarification during the meeting regarding the cost of the vehicle. Adcock said the $305,461 figure is sufficient to cover the full cost of the ambulance based on the bids received.
“So I’m making the assumption that we’re actually going to be able to buy an ambulance for $305,000?” Anderson said.
Adcock said the state also provided for an emergency cot to be included with the new vehicle. Adcock said the money is restricted and cannot be used for any other county purposes.
“It’s gonna be spent on an ambulance and an emergency cot that goes in the ambulance,” Adcock said.
The commission also addressed several other financial matters, including budget amendments for the Chancery Court and the County Clerk to replace office equipment and data processing machines. Adcock said the Fire Department also received an amendment of $8,587 for building repairs using proceeds from the sale of old two-way radios.
