The Livingston Board of Aldermen officially appointed Kevin Bishop as the new city airport supervisor during its Monday meeting.
Mayor Lori Elder Burnett said Bishop brings several years of experience as an airport manager and previously worked in aviation fuel sales. Bishop has already been serving the city as an assistant at the airport for some time.
“You have a fantastic airport up here,” Bishop said, “And I’m blessed to be a part of it. The leadership that you all have in place at the airport right now is fantastic and it’s going to be one of the nicest airports in East Tennessee, if not Tennessee by the time we get done with this.”
The board voted unanimously to approve the hiring following the recommendation from the mayor. The appointment was made with the blessing of the council to fill the supervisor role.
“We’ve got a lot of nice changes going on up there right now,” Bishop said.
Bishop said the facility is currently undergoing renovations to improve the appearance and cleanliness of the grounds. Bishop said new hangars are also under construction at the site.
“It’s going to be a showcase for Livingston, I promise you,” Bishop said. “We are having an open house on September 24th, so I believe that’s a Sunday.”
Performance Services representative Brian Stone also provided an update on energy efficiency projects, noting that lighting upgrades in the airport hangars are now complete. Stone said the company installed explosion-proof and higher quality LED lighting in the hangars as part of a city-wide improvement initiative.
Bishop said the upcoming open house will allow the public to see the new changes and take tours of the terminal.
