A Warren County Judge wants to take a different perspective on community service for youth offenders.
Juvenile offenders will be washing cars in order to work off court ordered community service hours. Warren County Judge Ryan Moore said the car wash will help both the juvenile offenders and the community.
“A car wash is an activity that these youth can do together to build a comradery, get their community service hours in, have some fun, and also help residents in our community by offering this free car wash,” Moore said.
Saturday’s event is the first juvenile-justice car wash in Warren County. However, Moore said the county already has several nontraditional ways for juvenile offenders to fulfill community service hours.
“Its not uncommon for our juvenile justice participants to help with local churches,” Moore said. “We’ve helped with the Rotary Club in McMinnville. We’ve helped with the animal shelter.”
Moore said he planned to continue to find different ways for juvenile offenders to log community service hours.
“We want to continue to offer more of these nontraditional type of community service opportunities for our juvenile justice participants, because it helps our community as a whole,” Moore said.
The free car wash is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Administrative Building parking lot in McMinnville.
