Clay County School Board approved adding School Nutrition to the work-based learning program.
Chair Benji Bailey said the work-based learning program will be a big asset when it comes to applying for future CTE grants.
“This is just another opportunity 1. to help our system, and help our students get a little work experience,” Bailey said. “And get a little money in their pockets as well.”
The school board approved an $8 hourly rate for students who work in the program that will come from the school nutrition budget. School Nutritionist Laura McLerran said students will help aid cafeteria staff with things like serving, but will remain away from slicers and food steamers.
McLerran said they would start at the high school level and see how it goes. She said the next steps will be to get together with CTE Coordinator Kim Upton and Clay County High School CTE Business Supervisor Amy Dodson to go over student schedules. McLerran said she estimates students to work no more than an hour and a half per day.
