Study To Reveal Need For Crossville Fire Station Relocation Or Third Site

Crossville working along with MTAS to find out the best option on the future of its fire stations.

City Manager Greg Wood said two options are being explored due to growing populations. Establishing a third station or moving station two for better coverage.

“We may be able to put off building a station three and put station two in a different place,” Wood said. “It’s a double edged sword there, because obviously if you establish a third station, you’re also going to have to man a third station.”

Wood said a third station would mean more more fire trucks and added expenses. Wood said growth in the northwestern portion of the county changed the original plans for a Sparta Highway station three.

“We know the property that we had bought for station three originally was not going to serve the way the city is growing especially with the Gardens and the growth on 127 North,” Wood said. “We actually put that property out for sale.”

Wood said he anticipates the study to be completed in about six weeks. Fire Station two is currently located at Industrial Boulevard.
