As Putnam County Schools prepare to return in-person Wednesday, Director of Schools Corby King will be watching the COVID numbers and preparing the system’s tools.
King said the schools have more than just open or closed, virtual or in-person in its toolbox if COVID numbers spike.
“We can close an individual classroom if that’s necessary, it could be a hallway, it could be a grade level, if it impacts a particular grade level,” King said. “If it’s more wide spread than that, we could close a school.”
King said they same type of plan could take place if there becomes a COVID issue with staffing. King said this for if the system cannot receive enough substitute teachers.
“We could close possible grade levels, say the high schools,” King said. “We could close high schools and leave elementary schools open and then subs would be available, and high schools be on remote.”
Putnam County Schools did not have to close down during the fall semester. The system is set to open on January 6, after providing a window for teachers to get vaccinated.
