A 53-year-old Cookeville woman died in a head-on collision Tuesday between Gainesboro and Baxter.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports Penny Maxwell died when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Tiffany Gaw of Baxter. Gaw was attempting to pass a vehicle towing a camper as she drove northbound. Gaw’s vehicle struck Maxwell’s head-on.
Gaw and an occupant suffered injuries. The Gaw vehicle blocked the roadway while Maxwell’s vehicle came to rest in the ditch on the west side of Highway 56.
Charges are pending as the THP investigation continues.
