The former dean of the Tennessee Tech School of Engineering will be laid the rest Saturday.
Dr. Leighton Esten Sissom passed away at the age of 85. The Coffee County native came to Tennessee Tech to study mechanical engineering where he graduated in 1962. He received his masters and doctoral degree from Georgia Tech.
Sissom returned to Tennessee Tech to lead the mechanical engineering program in 1965. He became Dean of Engineering in 1979. Sissom was a Fellow of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August at 11:00 am at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Entombment will be private Saturday.
