Fentress County is upgrading the HVAC system at the Fentress County Courthouse.
The County Commission will consider bids for the project during its meeting tonight.
County Mayor Jimmy Johnson said the current system was installed in the late 1960s. He said the boiler has been a problem for some time.
“The boiler is actually a 3 million BTU unit down there,” Johnson said. “On occasion, when you light it, the whole floor lights up under your feet. I had several people look at it, several different heating and cooling companies here in town and out of town. They’ve all said how dangerous it actually really is.”
Johnson said the upgrades should cost around $17,500. He said Fentress County will apply for a Governor’s Support Grant through the State of Tennessee to help offset the costs.
The Fentress County Board of Commission meets at 6 p.m. in Jamestown’s Historic Courthouse.
