Jackson County wants to purchase a tractor to take care of bush-hogging at the County Airport.
County Commissioners approved applying for a grant Monday night through USDA and T-DOT Aeronautics.
“I’ve been trying to come up with a way to buy a tractor at the airport to get those ditches bush-hogged,” County Mayor Randy Heady said. “It’s the same grant we used for the ambulance remount last year.”
Heady said the county would have to match $15,000 on the grant. Heady said the tractor would be solely for the use of the airport.
Commissioners voted 16-1 with one abstention to approve the grant.
Commissioners also approved an emergency policy and procedures for COVID-19 that will run through April 30. State officials asked each county to include the policy to avoid any audit findings going forward. The policy outlines the county’s response to COVID-19 including staggered hours for county employees as well as working from home to encourage social distancing.
Heady said he will encourage department heads to return to a more normal schedule after April 30.
Commissioners also heard that the number of people being tested has declined dramatically in recent days. Heady encouraged anyone who wants a test to be tested. National Guard medical teams are conducting the tests each weekday.
