The effects of Tuesday’s tornado have left a life a lifelong imprint on the victims, survivors and the entire community.
Local Counselor Selena Stewart said no matter the person, the impact of the storm affected everyone.
“We know families. We work close together. We see the destruction in person or on TV or social media feeds. We are all affected and have this connection,” said Stewart
Stewart said people should nurture the connections they have and hear what the victims have to say.
“People really need to tell their stories. You want to have an open mind and listen. Then the next thing is if you hear something that is concerning, you would want to ask some more follow up questions,” said Stewart.
Stewart said changes in behavior, lack of joy, isolation, not grooming, physical changes and thoughts of self harm are signs of needing counseling.
“Any of the agencies in town I could recommend. I think there are wonderful counselors all over the state, but in our area, we happen to have so many wonderful counselors every where you turn,” Stewart said.
Victims can call counselor agencies and go in for an initial assessment to receive further recommendations on treatment, according to Stewart.
