Cookeville will likely spend $66,000 to correct a stream mitigation plan along Tennessee Avenue.
Construction of the roadway required Cookeville to relocate several nearby streams. Public Works Director Greg Brown said those streams never developed for reasons that remain unknown.
“We contacted the [Army Corps of Engineers] and TDEC and came up with a plan to try to fix that,” Brown said. “We’re hiring a consultant to design a fix for us and we’ll construct it ourselves. They’ll be there to monitor and make sure we’re doing it correctly.”
Cookeville City Council will consider approving a corrective action plan for the streams during Thursday night’s meeting. Brown said the $66,000 price tag covers design, construction oversight, and future monitoring of the streams.
“For the next seven years, it’ll have to be monitored twice yearly for the first two years and annually after that,” Brown said. “It will also include site reviews with the corps and TDEC.”
The Tennessee Avenue construction project also required wetland mitigation at off-site locations along Bob Gentry Road. Brown said those plans have developed without any issues.
City council meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday inside city hall.
