Knoxville Man Charged After Vehicle Strikes Jamestown Officer

A Knoxville man landed behind bars after his vehicle struck a Jamestown police officer Tuesday.

Arrest warrants charge Don A. Stephens II with five counts of felony reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault on police. He remains behind bars on $125,000 bond.

The report states an officer encountered Stephens when arriving at Walmart for a person passed out behind the wheel. When confronted, Stephens reversed his Dodge truck and knocked the officer into a parked vehicle.

The 42-year-old Stephens fled the scene and nearly struck a pedestrian in the Walmart parking lot and another pursuing officer near A-Team Heating and Cooling on Old Highway 127, the report said.

Stephens continued to flee by driving South on the Highway 127 bypass and turning onto the Highway 52 ramp towards town.

Officers said Stephens was arrested after jumping from the moving vehicle on West Central Avenue in the Med-I-Thrift parking lot.

Stephens faces additional charges for possessing meth and drug paraphernalia.
