A trench collapsed and killed a Spencer utility worker Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said part of Phifer Mine Road fell in while crews worked to repair a damaged water line.
Members of the Chattanooga Urban Search and Rescue Team and Putnam County Trench Rescue responded to the scene. The Putnam County Rescue Squad reports the agency recovered the unidentified victim that became trapped.
The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has opened an investigation into the incident.
Spencer city officials will provide more information on the incident at a later time.
