Jamestown Man Arrested After Assaulting Cookeville Officer

A Jamestown man faces charges after allegedly assaulting a Cookeville Police Officer Friday.

Police arrested 50-year-old Eddy Lee Smith for DUI, resisting arrest, and assault.

Arrest warrants state Smith was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at T-Mart on South Willow Avenue with the engine running.

The officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, while a search revealed two open vodka bottles, a cut straw, and a leafy green substance believed to be marijuana.

Smith then became aggressive and began yelling while being placed under arrest, forcefully pulling away before kicking the officer in the leg. The officer then took Smith to the ground and placed him under arrest.

The officer suffered a minor contusion to his leg, while Smith was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center before being booked into the Putnam County Jail under $2,250 bond. Smith has since posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court April 8.
