Jackson County School Enrollment Continues To Decrease

Jackson County Schools experienced an approximately 1.1 percent decrease in student enrollment for the 2018-2019 academic year.

For three consecutive years, Jackson County Schools have experienced an enrollment decrease.

Phyllis Goad is the Attendance Supervisor for Jackson County Schools.

“The things I look at are the loss of job opportunities here. A lot of times if they are going to work in another county, they will just move to that county as well,” Goad said. “So we have had factories close and other businesses to close in the past couple years or so. I think that has helped the decline quite a bit.”

Compared to last year’s 1,491 students, 1,477 PreK through twelfth graders are currently enrolled.

Without the PreK program, enrollment is down at 1,415.
