A man accused of killing a K-9 from the Crossville Police Department was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday.
29-year-old Dustin Lee Dixon pleaded guilty to three charges after stabbing a K-9 last August during a pursuit with CPD officers. The K-9 was immediately taken to a veterinarian for treatment where it later died due to its injuries.
Dixon pleaded guilty to killing a service animal, theft of property over $10,000, and aggravated assault. He had been indicted on other charges such as DUI, evading arrest, and reckless endangerment, but those charges were dropped.
Six years in prison is the longest sentence anyone in Tennessee can receive for the death of a K-9 unit.
