The new fiscal year budget for Monterey has funding set aside for some new vehicles.
Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said both the fire department and police department have an aging fleet.
“Our fire department, we are setting aside $25,000 as a match for a grant to procure a new fire truck,” Wiggins said. “The police department, some of our vehicles are getting to the point where we might question their reliability. There is a lease purchase underway for at least three new police vehicles.”
The proposed budget also includes funding to purchase a new leaf vacuum for the street department.
The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet next week to vote on the first and second reading for the 2018-2019 fiscal year budget ordinance. Third and final reading will take place in June.
