New Van Buren County Farmers Market Nearing Completion

Work to complete the new Van Buren County Farmers Market should be complete in the next couple of weeks for a May opening.

“It’s pretty much complete,” Van Buren County Mayor Greg Wilson said. “People are excited about it and we’re excited about it.”

A USDA grant funded the farmers market which contains 16 stalls. Vendors can begin picking up applications for spaces May 7 at the Mayor’s office.

Johnson Builders constructed the facility which stands 40×80 feet.

Construction will soon begin on an arts and crafts building adjacent to the Farmers Market. Wilson said an economic community development grant will pay for the arts and crafts facility. A total of 11 vendors can sell wares in that area.

Wilson said farmers can overflow into the arts and crafts area if it does not fill-up.

The county also received grant money to construct an agricultural education building.

“It’s the culmination of a lot of efforts by a lot of people,” Wilson said.

All totaled, the projects total some $1.3 million in grant money to build the three facilities.
