Threat Closes Fentress Co. Schools Tuesday

It wasn’t just illness that caused Fentress County Schools to close Tuesday.

Thursday morning School Superintendent Mike Jones confirmed that a school threat also led to his decision to close schools Tuesday.

Jones said he received a call Monday night from Sheriff Michael Reagan, who informed him about a complaint involving a social media post of a Clarkrange High School student. The sheriff’s office has not released any specific details about the threat.

Jones issued a statement today that said his decision to close schools was based on illness and the uncertainty of the reported threat. He said the sheriff’s office has placed an SRO inside the school.

“Our students’ safety is the highest priority of the school system as well as the Sheriff’s Department,” Jones said.  “We understand the frustration and concerns of our parents and it is our hope that this investigation can be concluded soon.”
