DeKalb County authorities have accused a local inmate of breaking his own arm in an attempt to get early release from jail.
Authorities have charged 37-year-old Joey Phillip Phelps with filing a false report.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Phelps was taken to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital with a broken arm on October 26th.
During that time, he allegedly told officers two other inmates had broke his arm. Authorities said Phelps later changed his story and admitted that he broke his own arm in the hopes that he would get out of jail early.
He was serving 100 days for a child support violation.
