Algood Fire Hall Bid Approved Despite Coming In Over Budget

Algood City Council members have awarded the building bid for the fire hall expansion project.

The low bid came in at $511,500, which is $11,500 over budget. Vice Mayor Kirk Dyer said he wanted the project to go on, even though it came in over budget.

“Lets come up with the money somewhere,” Dyer said. “We are sitting on $8.8 million and I don’t think we are going to miss $11,000 or $15,000.”

According to City Administrator Keith Morrison, that $11,500 could be even higher as the price for the site preparation has not been determined yet.

The council approved the bid unanimously, but did not determine a way to pay the remaining cost for the project.

The expansion will add three double bays along with a new training space. It will also allow Putnam County EMS to have a second bay to run a 24-hour ambulance service out of the current station.
