Overton Schools Construction Projects Remain On Schedule

Overton County Schools construction projects at Allons, Hilham, and Rickman remain on schedule for completion between November and April.

Maintenance Supervisor Steven Mosley said there have been no safety or logistical concerns regarding students, teachers, or traffic during the construction process

“Every project will have delays, or will have material that was supposed to have been there that’s not, or rain that comes and stays that you weren’t expecting, so yeah, there’s been a lot of give and take,” Mosley said. “Things are quicker than expected, and some things are taking longer than expected, but it’s all going pretty good.”

The project at Allons is the closest to being finished with a projected completion date of mid-November. Fine-tuning includes grade work and the installation of gutters and downspouts. Much of the roof and brick work has been completed at Hilham.

Workers at Rickman are currently laying block for the foundation. That project should be done next spring.

Mosley said that while several projects have required change orders since construction began, the school system has kept all three within their approved budgets.

“I have tried my best to keep the construction site and the school day as separate as possible,” Mosley said. “As far as I’m aware of, there’s been no interfering with the regular normal school day.”

Mosley said the new spaces should be available for student use immediately upon completion.

“I think the additional space will be adequate for the growth,” Mosley said. “Of course, who knows ten years from now, but as of right now, it should alleviate a lot of problems.”

Mosley said the added square footage is intended to address enrollment growth at the three locations.
