The Tennessee Department of Education named Burks Elementary School Principal Heather Tinch the 2026-27 Tennessee Principal of the Year Thursday.
Tinch is the third administrator from the district to earn state honors within the last four years. Director of Schools Corby King said Tinch serves as a representative of local leaders who share a heart for their students and the community. King said the district is fortunate to have educators who mentor and set examples for the student body.
“We are so fortunate in Putnam County to have educators with the heart to lead, mentor, and set an example for our students,” King said. “Mrs. Tinch is a shining example of our leaders who share a heart for students, teachers, and the community. We are so proud of her, Burks Elementary, and our PCSS community.”
The Excellence in Education celebration also recognized the Tennessee Teacher of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and finalists for the Recognizing Inspiring School Employees award. Tennessee Commissioner of Education Lizzette Reynolds praised the educators and leaders honored during the statewide event.
