Tech Student Noah Mears To Direct New Feature Film

A Tennessee Tech student producing a new feature-length hitman comedy in Cookeville that follows two assassins dealing with the fallout of killing the wrong person.

Student Noah Mears, who is writing and directing the film titled “The Wrong Nobody,” said the project is being filmed in association with the Tennessee Tech Communication and Media Department. Mears said the production allows for local collaboration between the university and the community.

“The story is about two hitmen who knock off the wrong nobody, and now they have to deal with the consequences as they spend the day trying to resolve the issue,” Mears said.

Mears said the concept originated as a short film he developed with his brother, Edward Mears. The director said he later adapted that original idea into a full feature script.

“Inspirations for the film include The Nice Guys, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Goodfellas,” Mears said.

Mears said the production is connected to an independent study course for film and culture. Mears said he worked with Dr. Teddy Burch to use the project as a way to create a more film-focused environment at Tech following the successful inaugural “Reel Tech Film Festival” in the Spring semester.

“Dr. Burch and I came up with the idea of helping expand the scope of film production within the Communication and Media Department at Tech in hopes of achieving a film major for the department,” Mears said.

Mears said his previous experience creating short films and feature films gave him the confidence to complete a full production within the allotted semester-long production period.

“I have always made films, short films, and feature films of my own volition,” Mears said. “I have completed two features, so I know it is within my wheelhouse to pump one out within a semester.”

Mears said the production team includes producer August Creter and cinematographer Richard Maneiro. Mears said he has worked with both individuals creatively for several years.

“It’s really nice to bring two people who I fully trust in my creative process to a project like this,” Mears said.

Mears said the production must still complete filming and post-production before a scheduled December premiere. Mears said he is currently in discussions with the Backdoor Playhouse to host the screening.

“I hope that audiences are entertained,” Mears said.
