Clay County High School Adds Girls Flag Football Team

Clay County High School announcing the addition of a girls flag football team.

Principal Carl Crabtree told the School Board more than 30 students signed up for the team, which exceeded the initial goal of 14 players needed to field a roster.

“We are going to be making some history here starting in the spring we will have our first ever girls’ flag football team,” Crabtree said. “A member of the community came during the summer and Coach Edwards was a tremendous help in this process helping this take shape.”

Crabtree said the school also plans to add a track team in the spring. The athletic additions were part of a broader report on student engagement and academic goals.

In other business, the board also addressed several administrative items, including the election of leadership. The board re-elected Benji Bailey as chairperson and selected Nathan Sherrell to serve as vice chairman.

“Again appreciate the confidence that you guys have shown in me over the last few years and if there’s anything I can do for you’ve got my number, call anytime and I look forward to working with everyone,” Bailey said.

The board holds elections for the chair and vice chair positions every September.
