The Clay County Library remains on a limited schedule, but residents who saw the new facility this week are excited about the just-completed renovation project.
Director of Library Services Alecia Burns said the building is not yet fully open for regular service because of delays in the shipping of new furniture and computers.
“It went above and beyond our expectations,” Burns said. “It’s truly been amazing just to see everything that we have just alone to offer for the public where they can come in through the ADA doors that we have installed and the new bathrooms that we’re going to be able to offer to the community as they come in here.”
Burns said the new children’s area and a public meeting room available for scheduling have also been popular additions during the initial walkthroughs.
“Everyone who sees it is just astonished by how much we have in the building as far as how much we added to the building and just the upgrades that make it look bigger and better,” Burns said.
Burns said the library is currently waiting for books to arrive and be placed on the shelves. While the full reopening depends on shipping schedules, fingerprinting services are already available to the community.
“We’re hoping within two weeks everything will be fully functional just depending on shipping and everything like that,” Burns said. “But as soon as I get all my computers in and all the books on the shelves, we will be ready to fully open our doors and let everyone in and just go back to business as usual.”
