White County school officials avoided a costly repair at BonDeCroft Elementary after further investigation revealed the facility issue was less severe than initially feared.
Maintenance Supervisor Randy Alley told the School Board Thursday night the district originally anticipated a price tag of some $50,000 to address the issue.
“We found out today that problem has been taken care of with a little bit of digging and some smart people helping us,” Alley said. “So we avoided a major cost today.”
Alley said the district is still addressing ongoing septic tank issues, though the outlook for those repairs has now improved.
“If I can get by with the BonDeCroft not doing it, I’m gonna be real happy with that,” Alley said. “Air conditioning-wise, everything’s been great.”
Alley said the maintenance department is currently working through a high volume of work orders as they manage facility needs during the heat.
“Whenever we can get some breaks, we can get about all of it caught up,” Alley said. “But my air conditioning guy is right on it and, and very happy with that.”
In other business, the board discussed a policy update to include Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the district’s grievance and complaints procedures.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the addition was necessary to ensure the district has a specific policy on file for civil rights grievances as required for federal programs.
