A Former Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office deputy faces felony charges after authorities located a missing 15-year-old Alabama girl at a Sparta residence.
27-year-old Brian Anthony Schalk charged with aggravated statutory rape and harboring or hiding a runaway child.
White County Sheriff Steve Page said deputies found the girl at a home on Clearwater Square after she was reported missing from Decatur, Alabama. Page said the teenager is a Type 1 diabetic who did not have her insulin or medical supplies.
The 15-year-old is safe and has been reunited with her parents after they traveled from Alabama to Tennessee.
Page said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Schalk previously served as a deputy for the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office before resigning in March 2024 while disciplinary action was pending.
