Cookeville Regional partnering with the city to add 70 new parking spaces to the facility.
Chairman Danny Rader told the Board of Trustees Tuesday that work is expected to be completed within the next month or two depending on weather conditions.
“We’ve made some parking changes and moving, prioritizing patient parking on the east side of the building,” Rader said. “That’s displaced some employees, so we just, we need a little, bit of surplus on parking.”
Rader said the addition would help alleviate some space issues once complete.
Plant and Facilities Manager Jamie Woods said in addition to the parking project, the hospital is also finishing a refurbishment of the 6 East orthopedic unit. Woods said crews are currently adding exhaust systems to the IRB and have started construction on a training room.
Woods said the facility is replacing HVAC controls in two operating rooms and working on a replacement for the Pepco tube system. Woods said the tube system is used to transport materials throughout the hospital in a manner similar to a bank drive-through.
“So that’s our tube system that we use to bring the materials to that point,” Woods said.
