Smithville and DeKalb County partnering for a Public Engagement Open House Tuesday to gather community input for the development of a parks and recreation master plan.
DeKalb County Commissioner Jack Barton said the meetings provide an opportunity for residents to learn about the planning process and review information gathered to date. Barton said the master plan will serve as a framework for future planning, improvements, and potential funding opportunities for recreational amenities throughout the area.
Barton said the first open house will focus on Smithville residents and stakeholders from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Mike Foster Community Complex Auditorium. Barton said a second session for DeKalb County residents living outside Smithville will follow at the same location from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Barton said the public participation is a required part of the planning grant to ensure the master plan reflects the needs, priorities, and vision of the communities it will serve. Barton said input received during these meetings will help inform recommendations and priorities for future parks and recreation investments.
Barton said the sessions are open to parents, business owners, recreational users, and community organizations interested in the future of local facilities. Barton said the second session will begin after a brief break to reset materials following the Smithville meeting.
