Cookeville High School earned the highest spot among Upper Cumberland schools in the latest U.S. News & World Report state high school rankings.
Cookeville placed 54th out of nearly 500 high schools across Tennessee. Upperman ranked 101.
U.S. News & World Report said the rankings are based on factors including college readiness, state assessment proficiency, and graduation rates. U.S. News & World Report said the evaluation process identifies schools that best serve all of their students, including those from underserved backgrounds.
“The highest ranked schools are those whose students excelled on state assessments for math, reading and science, performed well on college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions,” U.S. News & World Report said.
U.S. News & World Report said Cookeville High School achieved a college readiness score of 31.8 out of 100. U.S. News & World Report said the school maintains a 95 percent graduation rate and features a 41 percent participation rate in Advanced Placement coursework.
“By reporting these rankings, U.S. News aims to provide parents with data-driven information to help them make better-informed decisions about their children’s education,” U.S. News & World Report said.
U.S. News & World Report said Upperman High School followed in the regional rankings at 101st in the state. U.S. News & World Report said Alvin C. York Institute ranked 135th, while Pickett County High School placed 154th.
“The rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia,” U.S. News & World Report said.
U.S. News & World Report said Livingston Academy earned the 166th spot in Tennessee. U.S. News & World Report said Monterey High School followed at 182nd, with Clarkrange High School at 189th and White County High School at 198th.
“A great high school educates all students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation,” U.S. News & World Report said.
U.S. News & World Report said DeKalb County High School ranked 216th and Stone Memorial High School ranked 225th. U.S. News & World Report said Clay County High School placed 235th, Jackson County High School placed 244th, and Van Buren County High School placed 256th.
U.S. News & World Report said Cumberland County High School and Warren County High School rounded out the regional list at 269th and 284th respectively.
