The Cumberland County Commission approved an agreement with T-DOT to begin upgrades on Westel Road to prepare for the Flatrock facility.
Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster said the resolution allows for major improvements to Westel Road, from near Pig Path Road to the Interstate 40 interchange. Foster said the project includes widening the roadway and adding turn lanes.
Foster said the construction plans also feature drainage improvements and the installation of sidewalks. Foster said the work will involve significant changes to the Interstate 40 interchange, including the ramps and the bridge.
T-DOT officials said the current project plans do not call for the closure of Pig Path Road.
