Algood Schedules Mirandy Road Water Tank Maintenance

Algood scheduling maintenance for the Mirandy Road water tank to ensure the long-term integrity of the city’s water infrastructure.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the 300,000-gallon metal tank requires a new coat of paint on the exterior to protect the structure from sun damage and fading. Morrison said the city has entered into a long-term agreement with USG Water Company to conduct annual inspections and manage ongoing upkeep for the facility.

“It’s mostly routine maintenance,” Morrison said. “It needs to be taken down, cleaned out. It needs some paint outside to make sure that the actual undercoating and painting and metal’s protected, so that paint wears out in the sun and fades and so this will pressure wash it clean and bring it up to speed and then make sure that everything is staying on track so that annually we’re addressing any issues that show up and occur so that it doesn’t deteriorate and we maintain the highest quality water that we can maintain.”

Morrison said the project is estimated to cost approximately $140,000, which will be covered through an annual fee structure. Morrison said the agreement with USG Water Company costs 35,000 dollars per year to maintain and upkeep the tank for the next five years.

“So we’ll take the tank offline and we’ll operate the pumps on a pressure-regulated system to maintain water in the line, so customers shouldn’t see any outages unless we experience a pump failure during the process,” Morrison said.

The maintenance work is expected to last between three and four weeks.

Morrison said Public Works Water/Sewer Director Walt Bradshaw and his team work to ensure the system meets all state requirements. Morrison said the city focuses on maintaining top-quality water and consistent service for all residents.

“So we work hard to maintain top-quality water and maintain water service to the residents and our public works water sewer director Walt Bradshaw works very hard and his team to keep the system up and and operating at top capacity and making sure that everything meets state requirements,” Morrison said.
