Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ hosting a free Ladies Day event titled “REST: Finding God’s Peace in a Busy World” on August 22 to provide women in the Upper Cumberland region with spiritual encouragement and mental health insights.
Member of the Jefferson Avenue Church and Ladies Committee Sarah Burns said you do not need to be a member or active in a church to attend.
“And this is a free event,” Burns said. “So any of the any ladies who would like to come and join us for this, they are welcome to come on and we’ll feed you and welcome you and it’s just going to be such a lovely morning and event.”
Burns said the Registration deadline for the event is Friday at 4pm to ensure an accurate headcount for the provided meals. Burns said interested participants can register for the program by calling the church office.
Member of the Jefferson Avenue Church and Ladies Committee Carrie Simpson said the annual tradition began in 2018 and returned in 2022 after a brief pause. Simpson said the theme of rest was selected because it addresses the modern tendency for people to overcommit and overdo in their daily lives.
“The theme of REST was proposed by our speaker and we thought it was perfect for the times that we are living in now and our tendencies to just overcommit and overdo and how important it is to seek God in our striving to rest more,” Simpson said.
Burns said the event features guest speaker Pam Lynch, a licensed counselor from Sheffield, Alabama, who will lead two 45-minute sessions. Burns said Lynch was chosen because she combines professional mental health expertise with a strong personal faith and a positive outlook.
“And so I think it’s just going to be super encouraging to the women to listen to someone who just has that education behind them as well as just a love for the Lord and the importance of taking time to rest and to be still and to know God and how that affects just our daily walk,” Burns said.
Simpson said the gathering allows women to realize they are not alone while facing the common challenges of life. Simpson said the morning includes coffee and cinnamon rolls followed by a lunch catered by Grade A.
“Truly, we hope that they leave empowered to become rest-ready warriors,” Simpson said. “We know that as Christians, we should expect battles but learning to rest in God and on His truth helps us to filter out all the noise and the lies that we hear on a daily basis and it helps us to choose our paths more confidently.”
The event will take place at the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ August 22 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Registration Deadline is Friday the 14th before 4pm.
