Cookeville Police Department detectives arrested William Todd Johnson on August 7, after a search of his Pinewood Drive residence uncovered more than 100 files of child sexual abuse material.
The Cookeville Police Department said the investigation began after detectives received a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The department said Microsoft originally reported that a user possessed files containing suspected child sexual abuse material, which led detectives to identify evidence linking the activity to the residence on Pinewood Drive.
“The Cookeville Police Department remains committed to protecting children and investigating crimes that exploit the most vulnerable members of our community,” the Cookeville Police Department said. “Investigations of this nature often require the combined resources and expertise of multiple agencies.”
The Cookeville Police Department said Johnson faces one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor with over 100 files. The department said the charge is classified as a class B felony.
“We would like to thank the Office of the District Attorney General for its assistance throughout this investigation,” the Cookeville Police Department said. “Strong interagency partnerships are essential to effectively investigating these crimes, holding offenders accountable, and protecting children from exploitation.”
The Cookeville Police Department said detectives located the material on devices during the execution of the search warrant. The department said the evidence found at the home was consistent with information obtained during the earlier stages of the investigation.
The Cookeville Police Department said Johnson was transported to the Putnam County Jail following his arrest. The department said he is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
