Greg Brannon preparing to take office in Clay County after a successful election night where he campaigned on a platform of bringing new ideas and growth to the region.
Brannon said the support from the community was essential to his victory and remains vital as he transitions into his new role.
“I’m so appreciative of the, the citizens of Clay County to, to vote me in,” Brannon said. “And, and now it’s time to get to work. You know, I needed them to win the race. I need them even more now that the race is over.”
Brannon said the voters expressed a desire for a shift in the county’s trajectory, specifically regarding economic development and local services. Brannon said the community is looking for more proactive leadership to move the county forward.
“I think the new ideas,” Brannon said. “You know, healthcare, some jobs coming in. You know, we’re all, people are just tired of us just laying back and, and things not really happening for Clay County and I think they were ready for a change.”
Brannon said the upcoming transition will require collaboration with existing local officials to implement his vision. Brannon said he anticipates that introducing new concepts to the current system will be a significant undertaking.
“Well, it’s, it’s not going to be easy for sure,” Brannon said. “You know, going, going into office and, trying to, put my ideas and, and have people to, to bite into what I, I believe that we need, you know, that could be a challenge.”
Brannon said his immediate focus is on building relationships with the county commissioners and office staff to begin the improvement process. Brannon said his ultimate goal is to elevate the county to a higher standard of success than it has seen in the past.
“So we just need to get to work with the, with the commissioners and the, the people that work in the, the office and, you know, we just need to get to work and see, see what we can do to, to make Clay County a, better than it, than it’s ever been,” Brannon said. “That’s, that’s my plan.”
