Severe storms moving through the region toppled power lines at the intersection of Cookeville’s Jefferson Avenue and Interstate Drive Friday.
A storm moved through around 2:30pm. The downed lines forced the closure of the roadway in both directions as thousands of residents remain without power.
UCEMC officials said at least 4,000 people are without power in southern Putnam, northern White, and eastern Dekalb counties as of 5pm. Cookeville Electric officials said crews are also working to restore power following outages around the city.
Putnam County Emergency Management Agency officials said a thunderstorm wind gust of 64 miles per hour was measured at the Putnam EMA weather station.
Reports said a tree fell on a home on Fox Hill Road in the Baxter area.Reports said trees and power outages are concentrated in central and southern Putnam County. Reports said a tree is down on Bay View Drive south of Cookeville. Trees down on Amber Meadows Rd. Damage has also been identified on Old Sparta Road.
Multiple trees also reported down in Fall Creek Falls Friday evening.
