Putnam Man Arrested After Relative Found Severely Malnourished

A Putnam County man faces multiple charges after officials discovered his 84-year-old relative living in a home with caved-in flooring and suffering from severe malnutrition.

Brandon McBroom faces charges of Aggravated Neglect of an Elderly Adult, Theft of Property, and Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Adult. Bank records showed McBroom allegedly transferred approximately $4,460 from the victim’s account into his own personal account through 30 separate transactions.

Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said Adult Protective Services first contacted investigators in April regarding the alleged neglect and financial exploitation of the victim. Farris said the victim was found unable to answer basic questions and was transported by emergency medical services for treatment of multiple medical complications.

“Our elderly citizens deserve dignity, compassion, and protection,” Farris said.

The investigation revealed the victim had not been bathed in weeks and was living in a residence where trash and dirt covered surfaces. Farris said the home contained very little food and lacked functioning bathrooms.

McBroom has a bond set at $143,000 and a court date of August 10, 2026.
