A former Cumberland County emergency services employee faces multiple felony indictments after a state investigation found he falsified timesheets
Tennessee Comptroller’s Office Adam Johnson accused of stealing more than $117,000 from Cumberland and Wilson counties. That includes more than $112 thousand from Cumberland County. The money came from time he did not actually work.
Officials said the investigation began after Cumberland County reported allegations of falsified records, leading investigators to discover Johnson was simultaneously employed by both agencies.
“Government officials must ensure that employee timesheets are routinely reviewed and verified before compensation is approved,” Comptroller Jason Mumpower said.
Officials said Johnson falsely reported 4,271.5 hours of work at Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services, often claiming to be on duty there while records showed he was actually working at the Wilson County agency. Investigators said they identified shifts that were not supported by scheduling records, documented communication, or electronic patient care records.
“When supervisors fail to confirm that reported hours were actually worked, there is a greater risk of fraud, waste, or abuse,” Mumpower said.
Officials said the investigation also identified $9,699.87 in questionable compensation from Wilson County where inconsistencies between timesheets and agency records made it impossible to determine if the hours were actually worked.
